The game was much closer than the score indicated. Two late touchdowns by Cowan put the game out of reach. On the first play of the game, Crazy Legs Thomas took a handoff and went the length of the field to give Cowan a 6-0. It would be a sign of his dominance to come.
The Mustangs answered with a long pass from Max Buzzard to Jack Paulson to set up a touchdown pass from Max to Ryan Nielson to tie the score at 6. After another Cowan score, a second touchdown pass from Max to Ryan was called back by a penalty. The first half ended 14-6.
Cowan started the second half with another long touchdown run by Thomas, then tacked on a safety by pulling Max's flag in the end zone. This gave Cowan a 22-6 lead. But the Mustangs refused to quit. A long touchdown pass from Max to Jack Maves gave the Mustangs the momentum. After a two point conversion to Josh Leatherby, the Mustangs trailed only by a touchdown and a two point conversion.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to score again. Cowan put the game out of reach with another incredible run by Crazy Legs.

Despite the loss, there were a lot of positives. Defensively, we pursued the ball carrier very well and made some good "pulls". We need to stick closer to the guy we are covering and go after the ball a little better when it is in the air. Offensively, I saw a lot of good routes run by receivers. We have an automatic 10 yard gain with the pass to Josh or Ryan over the middle.
Following the game, the director of the league approached me and complimented me on our team. He said we ran good plays and had a lot of talent. He mentioned that the Cowan team is the best team in the league and their running back scores several touchdowns every game. He said he expects us to be one of the best teams as well. That was nice to hear.
